Krakow Airport & Airport Transfers
Krakow Airport lies around 11 km (7 Miles) West of the City Centre and Old Town. Known officially as the John Paul II International Airport it is also referred to as Balice Airport, after the area it occupies.
The airport, whilst modern and functional, is rather small and somewhat overburderned by the ever-increasingly number of carriers and passengers it handles every year. In other words don’t be too surprised if you’re hit with small delays. That said expansions are planned and so hopefully in the not too distant future arriving in Krakow will be that little bit more comfortable.
Getting to and from the airport is relatively easy, thanks largely to a new train service that runs to Krakow’s Central Train Station (Dworzec Glowny). Tickets cost 4 PLN or 8 PLN if you buy them on board. The train platform is about 200 metres from the airport terminal, and easily walkable. However if you have very heavy luggage you may want to take the free shuttle bus that is laid on.
Regular Krakow buses also serve the airport but they tend to be a bit crowded and uncomfortable for tourists with baggage. If you’ve missed a train however jump on the 192, which will take you to the Main Station in about 30 mins. A ticket on board costs 3 PLN.
There are also usually plenty of taxis available on the rank, but if you want to be sure of getting one without a hitch then simply email us and let us organise one for you.
